To be a pilgrim: a memoir of Ernest A. Payne

William Morris Schumm West (1983) To be a pilgrim: a memoir of Ernest A. Payne. Lutterworth Press, Guildford

Ernest Alexander Payne died on 14 January 1980, at the age of 77. Within a matter of hours the Dean of Westminster was asking whether a Service of Thanksgiving for his life could be held in the Abbey. Such a request is a tribute enough in itself to the kind of man he was and the way other people saw him.

In To be a Pilgrim Morris West takes us through those 77 years, and helps us to understand what it was about the man that made so many want to pay tribute to him.

Sold for BHS funds by kind permission of the estate of Dr E.A. Payne (trustee Gordon Holmes).
